About Detroit Opera House
The Detroit Opera House is one of Michigan’s most historic and architecturally significant performing arts venues. Originally opened in 1922 as the Capitol Theater, it was designed by renowned architect C. Howard Crane and featured lavish Italian Renaissance styling, marble staircases, chandeliers, and grand lobbies. After decades of transformations and restorations, it reopened in 1996 as the Detroit Opera House and now serves as the home of Detroit Opera, hosting opera, Broadway tours, dance companies, concerts, and special events.
