The Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCASB) was a key cultural institution in the city, known for its engaging exhibitions of contemporary art by living artists. Founded in 1976 and originally operating as the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, the museum moved to its permanent location in the Paseo Nuevo shopping center in 1990. MCASB was celebrated for its cutting-edge rotating installations and commitment to critical dialogue in the arts community. Unfortunately, following financial hardship intensified by the Covid-19 pandemic, the museum announced its permanent closure in August 2022.
