About Douglass-Truth Branch
The Douglass-Truth Branch is a historic Seattle Public Library branch located in the Central District of Seattle, Washington. Originally called the Yesler Memorial Library when it opened in 1914, the branch was renamed in 1975 to honor abolitionists Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth. It houses the West Coast's largest collection of African American literature and history and was designated a Seattle Historic Landmark in 2001. The library underwent an expansion and renovation, reopening to the public in October 2006, while preserving its architectural heritage. The branch offers a wide range of programs, community resources, study areas, and public art, including the notable 'Soul Pole' sculpture.
