About National Museum of Women in the Arts
The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is the first museum in the world solely dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women in the arts. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, NMWA features a collection of over 5,500 works spanning from the 16th century to today, created by more than 1,000 artists including Frida Kahlo, Mary Cassatt, and Alma Thomas. The museum hosts rotating exhibitions and programs designed to foster dynamic exchanges about art, advocacy, and community engagement. NMWA addresses gender imbalance in art presentation by promoting the recognition and representation of women artists. Visitors can enjoy special events, educational programs, and access to the Betty Boyd Dettre Library and Research Center.
