About The Overton Park Shell
The Overton Park Shell is a historic open-air amphitheater and museum located in Overton Park, Memphis, Tennessee. Built in 1936 by the City of Memphis and the Works Progress Administration, it stands as one of the few remaining original WPA band shells in the U.S. Notably, Elvis Presley gave his first paid concert at the venue in 1954, marking its significant place in music history. After major renovations completed in 2008, the Shell continues to host free and ticketed live music events, community programs, and festivals, serving as a cultural hub for Memphis. Today, it offers family-friendly experiences with lawn seating, food trucks, and a variety of performing arts presentations throughout the year.
