About Marroney Theatre - Tucson, AZ
Marroney Theatre is a distinguished proscenium venue located on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, Arizona. First opened in 1956 with a production of Hamlet, it was originally known as The University Theatre and later renamed in honor of Peter R. Marroney, who led the theatre department for 36 years. The venue is celebrated for its crisp acoustics, clear sightlines, and a strong legacy of influencing theatre construction throughout Arizona. In February 2024, Marroney Theatre underwent major renovations, including enhancements to the lobby, box office, restrooms, new seating, and addition of state-of-the-art film screening equipment. It serves as a hub for performances produced by the School of Theatre, Film & Television, showcasing both plays and musicals by university students.
